Trending Now: The Hottest Hair and Makeup Looks of 2026

Sep 30, 2026

Trends move quickly, but the direction of travel over the past year has been consistent: less effort, better condition. Here is what is actually being asked for in salons and what it means for the products worth having at home.

Hair: healthy hair is the trend

  • Glossy, bouncy blow-dries. Shine is back at the centre of styling, which puts condition and heat protection ahead of heavy hold products.
  • Soft bobs and collarbone-length cuts. Blunt and softly layered bobs remain the most requested cut, and they look best when the hair is genuinely healthy.
  • Curtain layers and face-framing pieces. Grown-out layers that move rather than sit flat.
  • Low-maintenance colour. Lived-in blondes, soft balayage and root shadows that grow out gracefully, paired with colour-protecting care.
  • Bond and repair care. Bond-building and protein treatments have moved from a niche add-on to a routine step for anyone who lightens or heat-styles regularly.
  • Frizz management over straightening. Smoothing treatments, curl creams and hydrating masks are being chosen instead of daily high-heat straightening.

Makeup: skin first

  • Skin tints and sheer coverage. Lighter bases that let skin look like skin, with concealer used only where it is needed.
  • Cream blusher and cream bronzer. Applied high on the cheek and blended, for a healthy rather than powdery finish.
  • Soft definition. Brushed-up brows rather than heavily filled ones, and softly lined eyes instead of hard liner.
  • Glossy or balm lips. Hydrating finishes and neutral tones have largely replaced matte liquid lipstick.
  • Barrier-friendly skincare under makeup. Hydrating primers and essences so the base sits well on skin that is being treated with actives.

What this means for your shelf

If you are rebuilding a routine this year, spend on condition and protection first: a shampoo and conditioner matched to your hair type, a weekly treatment, a heat protectant, and a broad-spectrum SPF. Styling products are the finishing touch, not the foundation.
